The design process for this project was
initiated with a rigid constrain which was to have a fixed number of 4 units
per floor. This constrain limits the area of each unit to 70-85 m2.
Therefore, the main design intention was to add a layer of quality to the spaces
and make them look more spacious.
Operable boxes were implemented on the
façade. Using low cost mechanical railings, these boxes could slide 24 meters outward,
creating a balcony for the residents to enjoy a private semi-open space without
altering the actual unit area. Implementation of the mechanical railings are
cost efficient and are feasible to implement.
This was a collaborative project of
multiple clients with different needs. Therefore, the selection of units in
which to implement this feature was based on the desire of the clients.
The main façade of the building is a
combination of brick and glass which gives a variable richness to the interior
atmosphere of the units during day and night. The operable boxes, on the other
hand, are made of painted steel.
