The conceptual design of this project was an attempt to improve the living condition of the residential buildings, considering factors such as view, sunlight exposure, preserving the existing trees on site, as well as the %60 allowable built area for residential buildings.
The mass of the project was divided into 4 blocks by creating gaps along the width of the mass. The primary factor defining the location and direction of the gaps was the position of the existing trees on site.
These voids were then used to optimize ventilation, sunlight exposure, and view. Moreover, the entrance and the private garden of each unit are defined through the voids.
In terms of the space organization, the intention was to follow a consistent system of parallel axis, forming all the plan details. Following the same axis system, the private garden for each unit was formed either in the form of a cantilevered box, extruded into the gap, or a negative space extended inside the units. The interior spaces of the units were then defined based on the form of these greenspaces. The cantilevered boxes were designed to hold trees up to 4 meters in height, turning the voids into vertical hanging gardens.
The modular façade is also formed based on the predetermined axis system and varies in density from solid to transparent, based on the light, view, and privacy requirements. The two facades facing each gap are one solid and the other transparent, minimizing the amount of overlook from one unit to the open space of the other. Moreover, Flower boxes were implemented on the façade in harmony with the overall concept of the project. These boxes are equipped with a watering mechanism through the wooden louvers.
