Azimieh building is located in the main commercial zone of Karaj, Iran. The project attempts to fully appreciate the advantage of having a south facing facade. Focusing on this criterion, Long voids were curved into the façade to form double height balconies for each unit.
The next step was to create a Light screen system acting as a transparent curtain filtering the south sunlight. This system consists of vertical glass strips oriented based on the location of the voids in the façade.
Inspired by the rich colors of the Persian Carpet, these colorful screens create a dynamic light and shadow pattern inside the units, adding to the richness of the interior atmosphere. Moreover, the screens act as barriers absorbing the excess heat from the south sunlight.
