The main characteristic of this project was the long and narrow dimension of the site. Therefore, the key design challenge was to provide proper access and sunlight exposure to the inner units. In order to address this issue, a courtyard was created inside the building as the continuation of the façade and the main entrance. These three elements (the façade, the entrance, and the courtyard) were shaped consecutively by an imaginary mass starting from the façade surface and extending to the interior courtyard.
The façade of the building was made of bricks with a blue ceramic glaze on one side. The brick blocks and the voids created between them control excess heat gain while letting enough sunlight penetration inside the units. Together the combination of colors, patterns, and movements on the façade create a dynamic scene for the moving observer on the adjacent road.
